Resolution difficulties are experienced with imaging of weakly absorbing or low contrast target media. For example, breast cancer, where the tumor consistency is almost the same as normal tissue, which makes it hard to see, and bones with micro cracks, where the cracks are not visible because of the low resolution of usual absorption type imaging.
We will specialize in laser development, for imaging.
The solution is phase-contrast imaging, a modality that takes advantage of the refractive properties of the medium. Synchrotron particle accelerators are currently used for this modality, but are not widely available due to high cost and infrastructure and operational overheads. The benefits of phase-contrast imaging will spread widely for general use with laser driven accelerators.
Our technology will also be used as a multi-purpose tool for combining imaging and radiotherapy modalities.
